CASTRATION SURGERY

Castration surgeries for colts entail a veterinarian conducting the procedure on-site under anesthesia. This intervention is implemented to mitigate stallion-like behavior, prevent unintended pregnancies, and enhance the ease of handling and overall management of the horse.

The recommended age range for castration is between six and eighteen months; however, Bathurst Vet Services is equipped to perform castrations on stallions of all ages.

​

For added convenience and efficiency, freeze branding can be performed at the time of the colt castration surgery, thereby minimising the necessity for additional veterinary visits.
